Hello again chaps, back in Kenya – back to the blog.
First a bit of a waffle about my trip to the UK, probably
not all that interesting to most of you, so feel free to skip! It was a
brilliant couple of weeks spent seeing family and friends and enjoying the sun
without sweat. I spent a weekend in Southampton and had a mini reunion type
affair, seeing a few people I haven’t seen for nearly a year which was most
excellent. The other main event was VJ’s (my sister) 21st, she
rented the village hall and had a barn dance, loads of people came and the band
were cracking, so a good night was had by all. Seeing Maddie again was pretty
amazing as well.
The trip was finished off with a visit the London Zoo to
meet with the marine biologist who runs their breeding project. It was a really
interesting trip, their project is conservation based rather than commercial,
so it’s on a smaller scale and they have to concentrate pretty heavily on
keeping genetic diversity maximised. Whilst we don’t have to worry about that
quite as much as they do it was good to talk about how they keep track of it
all as it’s definitely something we’ll have to bear in mind. As well as it
being interesting it was also a free trip to the zoo, which is always nice.
Since I’ve been back at work it’s been fairly busy actually,
the brood that were doing well before I left are still going strong which is
nice. Next week I plan to get them moved to another tank and start seeing how
they respond to frozen food, a pretty major step. We’re getting on top of the
culture of the other live foods as well, I’m going to really concentrate on
that now, as we want to start using it on quite a large scale pretty soon.
On the non work front, I came back to three 10 day old
kittens, their eyes are just starting to open and I should think they’ll start
getting pretty boisterous soon:
The dogs are all pretty curious about them as well, in
particular the newest addition called Dolly (because she looks a bit like a
sheep, she’s a complete mongrel, I think there’s a bit of pretty much
everything in here, dalmatian to wolfhound and everything in between!).
I’m also on the verge of moving into my new flat:
Unfortunately the car I use has currently got a busted
gearbox so until that’s sorted it’s much easier to get to and from work from
Penny’s house as there are builders being dropped off here in the morning so I can
get a lift to and from with them. The flat’s in a stunning location, I’m really
looking forward to getting in there properly.
That’s the lot for this week I think, hope you’re enjoying
it.
So is that your swimming pool, or just the view into next doors garden...?
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I am actually reading your blog. X
That is indeed my pool, not that I've been in it yet...
DeleteI'm in a slight state of shock about this, how boring is offshore?
