Entry 7 - In which I get outwitted by an eel and somehow end up involved in amateur dramatics!

It’s been another fairly quiet week since the last entry, although today was fairly exciting, relatively at least! We finally got a decent quote for the lab equipment, so that should be ordered soon. They also mapped out the area in which they’re going to finally start building the seahorse building! It’s going to be an absolute leviathan of a thing, 10x20m is huge when you actually see it laid out. The stuff for filtration and all that jazz has also been ordered, it’s going to be an absolutely top end system. We’re also going to install a separate system for the treatment and isolation of ill fish which will hopefully enable us to be a bit more effective in combating any disease that occurs.

Yesterday was also fairly interesting, towards the end of the day I noticed that some of the eels had lodged themselves in the corner of their tank. These areas are walled off so nothing can go out the large outflow pipe. However, the eels can crawl over this wall. We got two of the three out no problem but the third wasn’t having any of it. we left him until this morning, but there was still no joy. As far as I know he’s still in there! In the evening yesterday I took Oli to audition for the local pantomime, and have somehow ended up being given the part of the panto villain – wasn’t exactly how I’d envisaged the evening going but it could well be interesting, and a good way to meet people if nothing else.

For those who don’t know him my Uncle Richard has something of an obsession with Weedy Sea Dragons, which are very closely related to seahorses, in fact he's super keen for me to breed them instead! Currently only one group in the world, Ocean Rider Seahorse Farm in Hawaii, breed them. However, we do have a related species here, I can’t find out what they’re actually called, but they’re definitely in the same family as the sea dragons and seahorses and look exactly like broken off seagrass. So here’s a picture for you Richard, sorry for the slightly dubious quality!

That’s all that I can think of this time round, until next time I hope you’re all well!
